Adam Sandler talks about writing Happy Gilmore 2 with Tim Herlihy, yelling at people in New York City from the sixth floor of a building as a college freshman, and performing a tribute song in his Love You stand-up special on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

During his appearance on The Tonight Show, Adam Sandler officially announced that filming for “Happy Gilmore 2” will commence in a few weeks. The highly anticipated sequel to the 1996 comedy classic will be shot in New Jersey. It will feature a cast including real professional golfers and cameos from individuals like Travis Kelce, as Sandler confirmed in the interview.

Sandler stated, “We’re going to do ‘Happy Gilmore 2’, thank you. This is happening. We’re getting ready to shoot it in New Jersey. We start in a couple weeks. It’s good. We worked hard on the script. We didn’t want to let anybody down. People have been asking me for a long time. We’re really excited about it. We wrote our asses off. So many of the golfers are being nice and will be a part of it.”

Kelce, who is venturing into acting with upcoming roles in Ryan Murphy’s FX series “Grotesquerie” and the Lionsgate action-comedy film “Loose Cannons,” expressed his willingness to appear in the “Happy Gilmore” sequel on his podcast in May, a sentiment echoed when Netflix officially announced the sequel that same month.

Initially, Kelce expressed his admiration for Sandler and his eagerness to be a part of the film, stating, “I’ll be a fucking extra… anything to get around ‘Happy Gilmore,’ an Adam Sandler film or set — count me in. I’ll do anything in the movie. I’ll be part of it any way I possibly can.”

In a different interview with IndieWire, Sandler also revealed that his “Uncut Gems” director, Benny Safdie, will have a role in “Happy Gilmore 2,” emphasizing that “he’s going to have a juicy part in that.” Safdie has previously appeared in Sandler’s films such as “Good Time” and has other projects such as “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” “Oppenheimer” and “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.”

The original “Happy Gilmore” was a commercial success, grossing nearly $40 million at the worldwide box office in 1996 and contributing to Sandler’s establishment as one of the prominent comedy stars of the decade. The film follows the story of Happy, a hockey player with anger management issues who discovers his talent for golf. Happy joins the golf tour circuit to earn money to save his grandmother’s house and confronts an arrogant pro named Shooter McGavin, portrayed by Christopher McDonald. The supporting cast also included Julie Bowen and the late Carl Weathers.
